University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center North Liberty (MCNL) is seeking a Human Resources Coordinator based in North Liberty, Iowa. This position supports the effective delivery of human resources. As part of the MCNL human resources team, the position provides human resources services and support in talent management and employee engagement, human resources program administration and operations, and human resources compliance.
This position will work Monday through Friday generally between the hours of 8 AM -5 PM. This position is eligible for a combination of on-campus (MCNL) and remote work. Remote work must be performed at an offsite location within the state of Iowa. Successful candidates must comply with requirements of the . Work arrangement options will be discussed during the hiring process.
Position Responsibilities:
HR Program Administration & Operations
- Initiate HR transactions, including but not limited to change of status, termination, appointment, etc.; attach appropriate documentation in accord with University, CCOM and UIHC procedures.
- Support employee leave requests by working with Leave & Disability Management office.
- Support onboarding process for faculty and staff.
- As needed, prepare and print badge forms for new or replacement badges.
- Submit requests for account creation and/or system access; respond to HCIS requests and inquiries; troubleshoot problems or issues.
- Coordinate separation process for staff; facilitate exit interviews, as requested; complete HR termination checklist; collect badge, keys, etc.; work with supervisors to ensure other UI-issued equipment is collected; contact HCIS to terminate account, as needed.
- Create, maintain, and update organizational charts.
- Assist with facilitation of compliance with FMLA, ADA and Workers Compensation; meet with supervisors and staff members to discuss policy and procedure, including necessary paperwork, required documentation and follow up; assure compliance with federal, state and University regulations; serve as a resource to supervisors and staff for related questions and concerns.
- Provide oversight of ELMS (enterprise labor management system), act as a resource to HR team members. Educate staff on policies and procedures; answer questions and provide guidance to staff, supervisors, and administrators.
- Evaluate requests for unpaid appointments; collect relevant information; ensure compliance with FLSA and University policies; complete appointments in Self-Service.
- Communicate with staff and provide basic 'how to' instructions, guidance regarding policies and practices such as payroll applications, Merit, SEIU, and COGS regulations, compliance issues, and employment inquiries.
- Assist with the completion of the annual performance review process, including advising, training, tracking to ensure department completion by University deadlines.
Talent Management & Engagement
- As needed, lead and coordinate multiple recruitments simultaneously; draft recruitment ads, as requested.
- Consult with supervisors regarding development of job descriptions; recommend job classification and staffing strategy (specified term, temporary, regular); submit hiring board request form.
- May assist with development of interview questions and work samples.
- As needed, prepare, and submit requisitions; place and maintain external advertising.
- Assist with the rating of applicants and recommend candidates for interviews; complete phone screens, as needed; complete pre-interview report; participate in interviews.
- Submit reference request and review references; complete salary query and assist with recommendation for salary offer; submit requests to offer; may liaise with candidate through negotiations.
- Upon acceptance of offer, coordinate onboarding process; assist with completion of HR orientation with employee.
- Provide resources and information for effective delivery of awards; complete intake with supervisors for requests for flex pay, SPOT recognition awards or other special compensation.
Advising/Communication
- Assist with providing advice and guidance to supervisors concerning job design, classification, career development, employee disputes and complaints, performance management and requests for reasonable accommodations.
- Assist HR team members with working closely with supervisors to identify and develop effective HR solutions, including training and development plans, performance improvement plans, and facilitation of meetings.
- Schedule face to face meetings, initiate phone call discussions and support communication with email updates.
Strategic Planning
- Communicate information, policies, and operational changes to assigned divisions/units; provide input on development of policies and procedures within the department; provide recommendations regarding changes to processes, practices, and strategies.
- Identify opportunity to improve systems and processes, achieve efficiencies and/or improve service delivery.
Compliance with Policies, Laws & Regulations
- Assist with monitoring completion of compliance requirements and prepare compliance reports.
- Follow up with employees regarding compliances overdue or coming due.
- Follow up with Employee Health, Health Care HR, and other central resources regarding questions or issues with the Compliance & Qualifications (CQ) system.
- Respond to questions/inquires related to compliance requirements.
- Coordinate job shadow requests and ensure compliance with related policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidential personnel files; review and audit files to ensure compliance.
The new University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty Campus will open in the Spring of 2025. Salary: $50,000 to commensurate – 3B

Education Required:
- A bachelor’s degree in human resources management or business administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of one year of experience in human resources.

- Ability to handle data with confidentiality.
- Demonstrated experience providing outstanding and timely customer service in a high volume and fast-paced environment.
- Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations affecting human resources.
- Proficient in computer software applications, including the full Microsoft Office Suite.
Desired Qualifications:
- Prior human resources internship and/or experience in a large, complex organization.
- Prior human resources experience within a health care environment.
- Knowledge of and experience with HR systems (e.g., HRIS, HRMS, ATS, payroll, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience successfully balancing multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
- Knowledge of University of Iowa Health Care policies and procedures.
