Iowa Health Care Department of Health Care Information Systems is seeking an IT Support Consultant. The position will provide advanced support, configuration, and installation of IT hardware for daily operations, in various size IT projects that are on as well as off campus, including our UI Community Connect sites. Participation in project administration, inventory management, and schedule management. Communication with direct management is essential and crucial to the success of the work balancing. All this work having a strong focus on, but not limited to, our diverse printing environment, hardware repair/maintenance, patient care devices and other Critical Clinical systems.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes printer and other systems device needs in the clinical setting and determines appropriate hardware to satisfy those needs.
  • Plans, installs, and documents complex clinical systems device hardware and printer configurations.
  • Develop the understanding of institutional knowledge to reflect the needs into project planning.
  • Perform proactive maintenance of equipment at UIHC, UI Community Connect and other locations on and off campus.
  • Coordinate system upgrade testing at UI Community Connect locations.
  • Will assist other teams in the division as needed.
  • Performs advanced analysis and problem resolution with a wide range of hardware and software, including connectivity, security and policy compliance affecting customers across multiple geographical locations.
  • Documents and shares findings with team members
  • Maintain hardware standards for clinical systems devices and printer equipment.
  • Maintain standard policies for hardware requests.
  • Communicates the value of adhering to established best practices regarding hardware, software, peripherals, and supported IT services to all levels of personnel.
  • Develops documentation for complex software/hardware installation processes.
  • Develops, documents, and implements procedures for supported hardware.
  • Maintains accurate inventory management records.
  • Accurately documents work in the ticket tracking system.
  • Assist with the implementation of approved projects, providing project support and services.
  • May manage small projects or one or more phases of larger IT projects that are on as well as off campus, including our UI Community Connect sites.
  • Maintains project documentation for tracking all phases of a project.
  • May flex schedule during projects or supporting go lives.

Salary: $49,511 to commensurate – 4A

Education Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, IT-related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience Requirements

  • Experience, typically 1-3 years, supporting workstations running Windows 10 and MS Office 2016/365.
  • Experience leading IT related projects.
  • Professional experience working with desktop hardware and software in a managed workstation environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with a variety of technical and non-technical customers.
  • Experience working in an IT Service Center environment.
  • Ability to move and install clinical systems device/computer/printer.
  • A valid driver’s license and must meet the University of Iowa Fleet Services Program rules and regulations.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft OneNote
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records and interfaced systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Comfortable working with various powered and non-powered hand tools.
  • Experience with wireless networking and security.
  • Experience working in Health Care or Health Industry Environment.
  • Experience with ITSM techniques, ITIL frameworks and/or LEAN principles.
  • Excellent organizational skills
