University of Iowa Health Care Department of Health Care Information Systems is seeking a Senior Application Developer to provide technical leadership for the development, configuration, and implementation related to integrated communication services across the enterprise. The Senior Application developer will collaborate and build relationships with other application owners within and outside our organization.

Position Responsibilities:

  • To provide technical leadership and project management support for the development, configuration and implementation of mobility and other communication systems offerings.
  • Provide technical support of all related activities and ongoing maintenance of these systems, including the integration into clinical and business operations.
  • Serve as technical lead on large-scale projects by recommending technical design for new or revised applications related to supported communication systems.
  • Manage small-scale projects by developing project plans and leading project teams to ensure project goals and objectives are met.
  • Work directly with customers to identify critical functional requirements, implement new system functionality and serve as a Subject Matter Expert for supported communication systems offerings.
  • Collaborate and build relationships with application owners, stakeholders, vendors and information system teams in support of various communication systems offerings.
  • Develop and maintain detailed support plans associated with ongoing maintenance and support of communication systems service lines and related applications, including participating in upgrade and testing activities.
  • Provide technical support for all supported communication systems service lines by assisting in resolving end users’ issues and concerns.
  • Research, review, troubleshoot and analyze system opportunities and problems to identify solutions and/or make appropriate referrals.
  • May travel to customer sites in support of the implementation or upgrade of supported communication systems services.
  • May provide administrative and/or functional supervision over assigned staff (Senior level)
  • Triage customer support calls from users 8-5 Monday-Friday. Provide some 24x7 on-call support.

Salary: $72,430 to commensurate – Paygrade 5B

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and related application development/support experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in the development and/or support of applications used by non-technical customers to support and enhance business processes, typically 5-7 years for Senior Developer in leadership roles including experience with programming tools, a comprehensive understanding of database technologies.
  • Experience working with and supporting any of the following communication systems: Voalte, Stanley Healthcare RTLS, Spok/Amcom, Zoom, eFaxing, texting applications (SMS, MMS), emergency notification systems, RF paging system/pagers, other mobile communication systems, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience working with application owners and/or vendors to analyze system and integration requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with a strong focus on customer service utilizing established processes and procedures
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with basic project management
  • Demonstrated ability using programming languages and tools for customizing vendor application software
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with technical and non-technical staff on system implementation projects
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with any of the following workflows: scheduling, referrals, ambulatory or inpatient clinical documentation, patient EHR portals, and telemedicine.
  • Project Management experience implementing and managing multiple small to large-scale projects.
  • Experience collaborating with technical and non-technical staff on system implementation projects, including development of system and process documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite of products (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, OneNote, PowerPoint).
