Iowa Health Care department of Health Care Information Systems (HCIS) is seeking a Systems Administrator to assist in the implementation, configuration, and support of the systems that supply medical device data to the patient Electronic Health Record (EHR) in a large HealthCare Enterprise Environment. This position is a highly visible role that collaborates with Clinical Application Services, Nursing Informatics, Networking Infrastructure Teams, Cloverleaf Integration Interface Team, Clinical Staff and Vendors to deliver integrated clinical device solutions.

Job responsibilities include a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems, MS Active Directory, and support of vendor application platforms. A moderate understanding of MS SQL, IIS, Windows Printing along with the basic concepts of firewalls, networking, and network-based storage systems is also a requirement.

This individual will contribute to troubleshooting complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of contributing factors. This person must also network with key contacts outside their own area of expertise for issue identification & resolution. Position requires some 24x7 on-call and on-site support.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the design, implementation, and support of departmental and enterprise level healthcare related systems.
  • Assist in the research and evaluation of new technologies and present recommendations along with justifications for hardware and software purchases.
  • Collaborate with service owners, clinical staff, and vendors to define the scope of requests.
  • Promote and maintain server and workstation patch management practices.
  • Monitor capacity and performance for an enterprise scale environment.
  • Assists in planning and implementation of application and systems upgrades.
  • Assists in the Implementation of security, audit, and resource allocation policies and procedures.
  • Install, upgrade, and maintain general Clinical Device Integration and Patient Monitoring application platforms including Nihon Kohden Neurology Platforms, Avasure Telesitter, BD Alaris Infusion Platform, Vyaire Sentry Suite, etc.
  • Install, upgrade, and maintain Philips Device Integration and Patient Monitoring application platforms including PIC iX, Guardian (IGS), IntelliBridge Enterprise (IBE) Interfaces, Philips MDIP, Philips IntelliSpace Perinatal (ISP), FocalPoint, etc.
  • Assist in the deployment of services and devices needed to integrate medical devices into the patient EHR.
  • The ability to work both individually, as well as in a team environment, in a highly collaborative manner utilizing excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Applies proven analytical problem-solving skills to help identify and resolve simple to complex hardware and software issues, including troubleshooting HL7/ADT Data flows and Network issues.
  • It is important that the individual develops and maintains effective relationships with the staff and management across all Iowa Health Care and Community Connect sites in the support of multiple projects simultaneously delivering project goals.
  • Produce and maintain design, installation, and configuration documentation for supported systems.
  • Provide mentoring and cross-training of Systems Administration to other Team Members and other Technical Stakeholders.
  • Consults with vendor technical experts to determine device architecture, topology, and transmission requirements.
  • Communicate and Coordinate with End Users, including Clinical Staff and other IT Resources, to resolve issues, complete requests and/or provide related support.
  • Install and maintain enterprise-class Windows servers and all related processes, including security policies and virus protection, tuning, capacity planning, and monitoring of all resources to ensure high availability of all services provided.
  • Address operational systems issues including file and share permissions, user accounts and installing applications.
  • May assist in giving direction and provide feedback during or post project to assure current and future goals are achieved.
  • Support SQL, IIS, Microsoft Windows failover-clusters, Microsoft WSUS and related systems
  • Troubleshoot and provide problem resolution for complex server issues.
  • Manage and participate in projects as assigned, and work with team members across the enterprise to deliver project goals.
  • Analyzes system requirements in response to customer request and costs by working directly with management and senior system administrators.
  • Integrate systems, devices, and instruments with core enterprise business applications.
  • Write and document test plans for system, device and instrument implementation and maintenance.
  • Provide Tier 2 support for all Clinical Device Integration Systems, including on-site as needed.
  • Participate in 24 x 7 on-call support rotation as required.

Salary: $56,645.00 to commensurate – 4B

Education Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, or related degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.

Experience Requirements

  • Typically, 3-5 years of experience in IT systems infrastructure development.
  • In-depth working knowledge of server hardware and Microsoft Server Operating Systems
  • Basic knowledge with remote management tools, MS Clustering services, software, and operating system patch management.
  • Strong understanding of the principles of customer service
  • Accuracy and attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively document procedures and instructions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage small IT projects that require coordination of staff and resources.
  • Experience, and strong ability to, work with end users and leadership staff

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Philips patient monitoring platforms, serial interfaced devices and HL7 Standards.
  • Basic understanding of networking technologies, firewalls, and hypervisor technologies
  • Familiar with server hardening methodologies and practical implementation experience.
  • Experience interfacing Laboratory instruments or Clinical Devices in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL, IIS, Cloud Platforms, InterSystems Cache and/or Oracle database systems.
  • Proficient in programming with a scripting language such as PowerShell
  • Practical experience using remote management tools.
