The University of Iowa is seeking a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst for a 1-YEAR SPECIFIED TERM ASSIGNMENT.
This position is responsible for evaluating business processes, implementing strategies to improve operational functions, and supporting data-driven decision-making across Facilities Management.
This position will collaborate with FM business customers to understand and develop requirements document and facilitate needs assessment. Additionally, will conduct data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights that drive business decisions.
This position will help design and develop executive dashboards and reports to support strategic decision-making, implement and manage business intelligence tools, and develop and maintain data models, databases, and data integration processes. Also responsible for verifying solutions before delivery to ensure they meet requirements.
This position is eligible for remote work within Iowa that may require limited work onsite at times and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the and .
Duties to Include:
- Review and assess data, analytics, and modeling requests to determine feasibility.
- Analyze data integrity and recommend improvements for data validity.
- Optimize database queries and ETL processes for performance and scalability.
- Proactively contribute ideas and improvements to enhance processes.
Location: Remote
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in data analytics, data science, or a related field (e.g., computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, business analytics) from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Experience (typically 1 – 3 years) with hands-on experience in data science and analysis, supporting data science platforms and users, including requirements gathering, design and development of dashboards and reports using BI tools.
- Expertise in Power BI/Tableau development, specializing in dashboard design, data visualization, and storytelling, with strong hands-on experience in calculation functions and data modeling best practices.
- Ability to integrate Power BI/Tableau with cloud services, APIs, and other enterprise data sources.
- Ability to create, optimize, and maintain ETL packages for data integration across enterprise systems using tools like SSIS, AWS Glue, or Informatica.
- Design, develop, and maintain custom SSRS reports and dashboards, including parameterized, drill-down, and interactive reports to support business decision-making.
- Strong knowledge of SQL with experience in relational databases like Oracle, MSSQL, and Postgres, demonstrating proficiency in data modeling techniques and analyzing large datasets.
- Knowledge of programming languages commonly used for data analysis, such as Python.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, balance multiple priorities, and to ensure a high level of accuracy in work produced is required.
- Possesses strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across various teams, and excels in communicating complex information clearly and confidently, both orally and in writing, to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Windows/Linux servers, specifically in hosting BI solutions and implementing deployment best practices.
- Experience with managing and supporting large operational departments.
- Experience in integrating disparate data sources and unifying them for analytics and insights.
- Experience in SSAS, and DAX for data modeling, analysis, and reporting in Power Pivot.
