ImOn Communications has been the LOCAL choice for high-speed Internet, cable TV, and phone in Eastern Iowa since 2007. Since then, we have expanded our network to provide fiber Internet services to more than a dozen communities in Iowa and beyond! As we grow our network, we are looking for a Utility Locate Technician to join our team.

A Utility Locate Technician is a key component to ensure that the area is complying with client and state requirements. Utility Locators are responsible for pinpointing the paths of cables, pipes and other conduits that carry utilities underground. The locators' efforts protect underground utilities from damage during projects involving excavation.

 

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Locates underground facilities by using a transmitter and hooking up to a buried facility, pedestal etc.
  • Works in and walks over all types of terrain in and around construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas in all types of weather conditions.
  • Interprets job order tickets, blueprints, and maps to efficiently route and perform duties.
  • Performs locates and emergency/on-call locates during regular, overtime and holiday hours as necessary to meet customer needs.
  • Performs all work in a timely, professional, and efficient manner while effectively communicating and interacting with customers, co-employees and third parties.
  • Communication with management team, contractor and utility customer to ensure a damage free environment.
  • Knowledge of technology and tools needed.
  • Some travel required to different ImOn Markets, company vehicle and tools provided.

Requirements

We are looking for people with:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
  • Ability to be on your feet for several hours per day, including walking and bending.
  • Must be physically able to move 100-pound cable vault lid using a vault hook.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to work with others and in a supervised team environment.
  • Ability to differentiate colors to identify specific utility lines.
