The Center for Social Science Innovation (CSSI) at the University of Iowa, seeks a Communications Coordinator with an interest in and commitment to developing compelling narratives about the social science research enterprise at the University of Iowa. The Communications Coordinator will plan, develop, implement, and assess communication and dissemination efforts of the unit. Using diverse materials and channels, including print, digital, broadcast, and social media, this individual will promote unit programs, opportunities, and services, as well as celebrate and recognize accomplishments of social science researchers on campus. Overall, the Communications Coordinator will create compelling communications that help build relationships between the center and a wide range of internal and external audience s.

About the Center for Social Science Innovation
The is committed to advancing, supporting, and celebrating interdisciplinary social science research. Under the Office of the Vice President for Research, CSSI: Serves as a c entral hub at the University of Iowa where social scientists, including faculty, staff, and PhD students, can find a community of research support and resources. Provides strategic resources to support innovative and high impact social science research, including but not limited to quantitative and qualitative empirical research, theory development, evaluation science, and historical and comparative approaches. Fosters interdisciplinary collaboration enabling scholars to address topics of significant public interest spanning human behavior, health, community, culture, and institutional functioning. Maintains strong partnerships with research offices, centers, and institutes across campus to collectively leverage different resources from the university and funding agencies, facilitating training, scholarship, and co-sponsoring collaborative ventures. Seeks to improve the lives of Iowans by supporting research into how human behavior, civic engagement, and social interaction is affected by people’s physical and social environment. Collaborates with external partners from Iowa’s communities and government organizations providing research support services and topical expertise to help assess needs and solve local challenges.

Qualifications:
Education or Equivalency Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, business administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated communications experience in a professional setting, including strategic planning, writing, and editing.
  • Excellent attention-to-detail and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrates experience multitasking and working with a variety of projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with others in a team setting.
  • Knowledge of using social media strategically to reach key stakeholder audiences.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Knowledge of University of Iowa policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Experience with scientific writing.
  • Proficient working knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Experience in editing with strong proofreading, grammar, and spelling skills.
  • Experience using graphics software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop).
  • Experience creating web content and working in a content management system (e.g. Drupal).
