Senior IT Support Consultant – Data Center Operations

Iowa Health Care department of Health Care Information Systems is seeking a Senior IT Support Consultant to manage the data centers and technology rooms. This position requires 24x7 response to failures and threats to these spaces and controls access to them.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for physical security, power, cooling, and equipment in technology rooms, both on campus and remote locations related to these functions.
  • Responsible for monitoring equipment and spaces from an MEP perspective and responding to data trends and alarms.
  • Responsible for capacity planning of data centers MEP, Infrastructure, and space.
  • Responsible for capacity planning of technology rooms MEP.
  • Support troubleshooting of server hardware, other equipment, and networks in HCIS data centers and telecom closets. Includes install of customer swappable parts inside servers and other equipment at the direction of Systems Administrators.
  • Escort all contractors into IT spaces to fix equipment and new installations or projects inside.
  • Manage MEP capital and operational projects relating to HCIS Data Centers.
  • Occasional travel in eastern Iowa.
  • Perform physical tasks such as swapping UPS batteries and installing Servers.

Salary: $56,304.00 to commensurate – 5A

Education Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Professional experience, typically 3 years, in a medium to large data center, with a focus on network infrastructure, design, and support of server hardware.
  • Experience in installing network racked equipment (Servers, Appliances) with wire management skills and attention to detail and documentation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to move and install equipment.
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Standards.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with supporting large capacity air handling systems and understand how that relates to capacity planning and recovery of those systems in an IT environment.
  • Experience with supporting large capacity UPS systems and the infrastructure upstream and downstream.
  • Experience with monitoring systems such as Johnson Controls, Siemens, Struxureware, or other SNMP/Modbus based platforms.
  • Understand Network topologies and support of network equipment such as Cisco.
  • Customer support skills with a good communication and collaboration.
  • Strong writing and documentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office for communication/collaboration and documentation.
