University of Iowa Health Care department of Health Care Information Systems is seeking a Senior Application Developer to provide technical leadership, direction, and technical support for the development, configuration, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of Epic System software related to the Stork application. This position will work in partnership with the Epic, Subject Matter Experts, Department of Obstetrics and Health Care Information Systems to support strategic planning, daily operations, and assist with technology planning to maximize user and organizational effectiveness. This position includes working with Project Management groups, key stakeholders, vendors, contactors, and end users regularly.

Position Responsibilities:

Analysis/Design

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to analyze workflows and develop application design.
  • Research system solutions.
  • Create functional/technical specifications for system build and complex integrated systems.
  • Lead design and analysis.
  • Develop technical design and procedures for new or revised applications.
  • Leads the review and analysis of system problems to identify solutions and/or make appropriate referrals.
  • Demonstrate features to the user community and assess applicability, impact, and value.

Implementation

  • Configure and customize applications.
  • Review the application build for efficiency, completeness, and correctness.
  • Understand and adhere to Change Management policies and procedures.
  • Understand and adhere to IT Security policies and procedures.

Support and Maintenance

  • Completion of related Epic Certifications/accreditations or eligible to obtain and maintain relevant Epic certifications/accreditations specific to your role.
  • Guide development and maintenance of testing scripts for execution during implementations, special updates, and system upgrade cycles.
  • Resolve complex system problems through participation in 24 x 7 on-call rotations.
  • Proposal software maintenance procedures
  • Evaluate system upgrades to identify new functionality.
  • Develop standards for documentation to ensure recovery capability, as well as satisfactory and stable performance of the platform(s) and all applications and processes.
  • Lead staff in development and maintenance downtime workflows and procedures.
  • Travel to customer sites as needed to support application implementation, upgrade, optimization and/or training/conferences.

Project Management

  • Develop work plan and time schedules for computing projects including outlining phases, identifying personnel, and computing equipment requirements. Monitor progress and revise schedule and plan as needed.

Business Analysis

  • Identify business system solution requirements by analyzing work processes and operations; evaluate business and information systems functionality.
  • Serves as the liaison for technical staff, users, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Analyze, document, and recommend business process design in applicable areas.

Leadership/Staff Management/Financial Responsibility

  • Guide staff in documenting system procedure and guidelines for users, as well as programs and programs modifications.
  • Assist in developing ideas for presentations to senior management. Build and foster relationships.
  • Provide leadership in multiple areas of expertise.
  • Provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching, and counseling to assure outcomes are achieved.
  • May provide administrative and/or functional supervision over assigned staff.

Salary: $68,149.00 to commensurate – Paygrade 5B

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and related application development/support experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in the development and/or support of applications used by non-technical customers to support and enhance workflow processes, preferably healthcare, typically 5-7 years of experience for a Senior Application Developer role.
  • Experience acting as the primary contact for the support, configuration, and development of at least one enterprise application or area of functionality, preferably healthcare related.
  • Experience working with application owners and/or vendors to define system requirements, integration requirements and understand business needs.
  • Demonstrated experience working with end-users to define system requirements, understand business needs and convert business requirements into functional/technical specifications for complex integrated systems build.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with basic project management
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with technical and non-technical staff.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with any of the following workflows: obstetrics and gynecology, perioperative, inpatient, outpatient, or similar healthcare experience.
  • Epic certification/accreditation related but not limited to the following: Stork, Optime, EpicCare Inpatient, EpicCare Ambulatory, Orders
  • Demonstrated ability using tools for customizing vendor application software.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of integrated system software solutions
  • Experience collaborating with technical and non-technical staff on system implementation projects.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience adhering to regulatory requirements with respect to system configuration.
