Position Summary:
The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for the Backup Administration of Windows and Linux servers including the backup software architecture, configuration, installation, and administration. This includes knowledge of backup and recovery processes, data deduplication, replication, and integration with various applications and environments. Associated duties include various aspects in the setup, maintenance, and administration of a variety of Linux and Windows systems. This individual must work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. This person must also network with key contacts outside their own area of expertise for issue identification & resolutio n. The administrator must also show proficiency in documenting upgrade procedures; troubleshooting complex issues involving system administration, networking, and storage; and continually challenging yourself to improve existing processes and identifying new ones.
Position Responsibilities:
- Design, deploy, and maintain backup infrastructure for Windows, Linux and NAS/Isilon environments utilizing Dell Data Protection Suite/Avamar.
- Provide Windows and Linux Administration support related to backup services and troubleshooting.
- Participate and provide input with the design of departmental and enterprise level Linux Systems.
- Assists in the development of long-range strategies for Linux systems support needs of the organization.
- Install, maintain, and configure enterprise-class LINUX VMs and all related processes, including backup/restore, security policies, tuning, capacity planning, and monitoring of all resources to ensure high availability of all services provided.
- Address operational systems issues including Logical Volume Manager functions, file and share permissions, user accounts and installing applications.
- Participate in release management functions, in coordination with Application Management group.
- Write procedure documentation for peers and junior staff.
- Write installation and setup documentation for supported systems.
- Write and document test plans for system implementation and maintenance.
- Promote and maintain upgrade management practices.
- Monitor capacity and performance.
- Plan and implement upgrades.
- Develop scripts for automation of systems tasks.
- Support high availability server configurations.
- Troubleshoot and provide problem resolution for complex server issues.
- Provides 24 x 7 on-call support as required and requested.
- Manage and participate in projects as assigned, and work with team members across the company to deliver project goals.
- Consults with vendor technical experts to determine device architecture, topology, and transmission requirements.
- Provide mentoring and cross-training of Systems Administration and Service Desk staff.

Salary: $70,000 to commensurate – 5B

Education Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
Experience Requirements
- Typically, 5-7 years of experience
- Experience with backup and restore technologies (e.g., Dell Data Protection Suite/Avamar, IBM Storage Defender, IBM/Cohesity) in on-prem virtual, physical and Cloud scenarios, including use of SAN/NAS tools (e.g., snapshots, flashcopy).
- Experience with Windows and Unix administration duties.
- Proficient in programming with a scripting language such Korn Shell or Perl.
- Familiarity with Cloud technologies and server management tools such as Ansible, git, Docker, etc.
- Accuracy and attention to detail with strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to effectively document technical procedures and instructions.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and strong interpersonal skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with authentication methods, including LDAP, Kerberos, Active Directory, SSSD, MFA, etc.
- Experience with Logical Volume Management and support of SAN-attached devices and tools such as V-Center and Isilon.
- Practical experience using systems management tools.
- Experience in installation, maintenance, upgrade, configuration, problem resolution and performance tuning of UNIX operating systems.
- Familiar with server security hardening methodologies and practical implementation experience for Windows and Unix.
- Familiar with networking and TCP/IP, and security of Windows/Unix systems.
