Area Ambulance Service (AAS), the regional 9-1-1 Emergency Medical Services provider for Cedar Rapids, Marion and 15 surrounding communities, is seeking a new President. The President of AAS will oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization. They will also determine and formulate policies and provide overall direction of the organization within guidelines set up by a Board of Directors. The role will plan, direct, or coordinate operational activities at the highest level of management with the help of executive team and staff managers.
Essential Job Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide inspiration and direction to ensure ongoing leadership development throughout the organization.
- Create an environment that promotes great performance and positive culture.
- Hire/appoint department heads or managers and assign or delegate responsibilities to them.
- Direct or coordinate an organization's financial or budget activities to fund operations, maximize investments, or increase efficiency.
- Oversee the company’s fiscal activity, including budgeting, reporting, and auditing.
- Coordinate the development or implementation of budgetary control systems, recordkeeping systems, or other administrative control processes.
- Preside over or serve on boards of directors, management committees, or other governing boards inside or outside AAS.
- Prepare bylaws approved by board of directors and ensure that bylaws are enforced.
- Prepare or present reports concerning activities, expenses, budgets, industry statutes or rulings, or other items affecting businesses or program services.
- Serve as liaison between board of directors, and outside organizations.
- Interpret and explain policies, rules, regulations, or laws to AAS leadership, board of directors, clients, or individuals.
- Negotiate or approve contracts or agreements with suppliers, distributors, State or city agencies, or other organizational entities.
- Review reports submitted by staff members to recommend approval or to suggest changes.
- Present information at meetings or conventions to promote services, exchange ideas, or accomplish objectives.
- Review and analyze legislation, laws, or public policy and recommend changes to promote or support interests of the general population or special groups.
- Responsible to ensure all state reporting requirements are met.
- Attend and participate in meetings of municipal councils or council committees.
- Build alliances and partnerships within the community and other organizations.
Key Competencies:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Education & Experience:
- Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an executive leader.
- Prior nonprofit experience of at least 3 years.
- Medical background preferred but not required.
