Position will be filled as either Communications Infrastructure Engineer or Senior Communications Infrastructure Engineer based on candidate qualifications and interview evaluation.

Position Summary
This position will be responsible for installation of cabling, configuration and provisioning network ports, PBX services provisioning, documentation of cable plant utilizing facility management system, creation of work orders as needed for services and events in UI Health Care facilities, working across teams with in-house staff and contractors, and other duties as assigned. Project specific work includes leading small/medium and participation on technical teams in large scale projects. This position will provide technical and functional deliverables to meet customer/user needs in compliance with UI Health Care, University of Iowa, and industry standards. This position routinely ascends/descends to varied heights to install and manage infrastructure, must be able to move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and will participate in on-call rotation.
Position Responsibilities
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies used in the development of university standards, National standards EIA/TIA, NEC, NFPA, and BICSI. Understand and implement design documents as provided.
- Participate in the system layout and drawing with Senior Communications Infrastructure Engineer.
- Review design reviews, estimates and quotes following HCIS standards for Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) in IT rooms.
- Independently troubleshoot complex physical plant problems and services, working with other groups as required.
- Monitors, tests and documents IT room environments and electrical circuits.
- Inspect telecommunication closets for adherence to HCIS standards, including electrical and environmental.
- Assist in developing and implementing a telecommunication room annual maintenance strategy.
- Make recommendations regarding product solutions for technology and tools.
- Provides hands-on technical Installation and oversight for information transport system.
- Provides schedules for the known outages, power interruptions and cooling issues.
- Oversee the installations, testing and maintaining copper and fiber infrastructure, analyzing test results and review infrastructure documentation.
- Provides support for the activation, repair, maintenance, and documentation of campus and building voice, data, DAS and CATV services.
- Participates in daily inventory management and accountability for projects and work orders, as well as verifications of circuits. Performance verification of established documentation standard s and report issues and changes.
- Verify and document all voice, data, and video services to maintain accurate infrastructure records.
- Document all fiber optic termination and patching to maintain accurate infrastructure records.
- Participates in the development of physical infrastructure policies and standards.
- Reviews updated shop drawings and product submittals.
- Participates as a project team member.
- Assist with determining feasibility, costs, equipment needs, and time constraint/allocation for assigned projects.
- May serve as construction lead for quality control.
- Maintains safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal regulations.
- Exercise ability to interpret and execute established project plans.
- Provide technical guidance to the HCIS Infrastructure team.
- May provide functional supervision over assigned staff.
- Provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching and counseling to assure assigned work and projects are achieved. Attend construction and/or design meetings as assigned and provide project information back to department.
- Interpret customer/user requirements through effective verbal and written language with technical and non-technical staff.
- Maintains customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns, answering questions.
- Provide status reports on assigned work.
- Ability to move and install equipment up to 50 pounds and with assistance, occasionally move and install equipment up to 100 pounds.

Salary: $56,240.00 to commensurate – Paygrade 3B

Education Required
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
Required Qualifications
- Experience (typically 1-3 years) with installation and support of communication infrastructures to include, but not limited to terminations and splicing fiber and/or copper.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging technologies and National cabling standards including EIA/TIA, NFPA, and BICSI.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in using personal computers. MS Office productivity suite software, and common applications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to write and deliver clear and concise instructions, reports, and work summaries. Good interpersonal skills, strong customer service and customer relation skills.
- The ability to multitask and work independently as well as part of a team.
- A valid driver’s license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Standards.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in a healthcare or health industry environment (highly desirable)
- Experience with telephony systems to include NEC, Cisco, etc. Experience with network port provisioning and troubleshooting on platforms to include Cisco.
- Knowledge and/or experience with facility management (PCR360, etc.) and ticket tracking system (Cherwell).
- Knowledge of commercial building, fire, and electric codes
