The University of Iowa Facilities Management is seeking a Manager in Custodial Services. This position will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating shift operations of Custodial Services and staff. It works closely with custodial senior leadership to develop, implement, and maintain strategic and administrative initiatives for improving Custodial Services operations and functions, including leading change and improvements in work methods, practices, and performance standards.
This position is performed fully on-campus.
Duties to Include:
- Assist custodial senior leadership in development of unit budget.
- Develop and foster a "Workplace of Choice" environment. Foster a welcoming and respectful organizational culture.
- Plan and organize objectives and long-range programs for cleaning to ensure customer needs and University standards are consistently met.
- Evaluate effectiveness of operations, custodial equipment, and chemicals to meet building operations and maintenance standards.
Location: Campus – Eastside Area 1 – Includes 16 buildings
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 4:30PM-1:30AM
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
- Professional experience (typically 5 years – 7 years) of custodial leadership experience.
- Minimum 1-year supervisory experience, including demonstrated experience planning, coordinating, analyzing, executing, and documenting specific administrative and management functions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to work hours outside of regular schedule and weekends.
- Commitment to customer service excellence and high standards.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage priorities and workflow.
- Ability to deal effectively with a variety of individuals at all organizational levels.
- Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
Special Qualifications:
- A valid driver’s license is required, as well as an ability to meet University of Iowa Driving Policy.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Professional experience (typically 7 years or more) of custodial leadership experience.
- Supervisory experience at the University of Iowa.
- Experience in a union environment.
- Knowledge of applicable University policies, collective bargaining agreements and relevant federal and state regulations.
- Experience within a large and/or complex institutional or corporate campus.
- Familiarity with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), preferably AiM.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook and basic internet/intranet usage.
