Pay is $1,294 per credit hour. 

Schedule:

  • Adjuncts needed for fall, spring and summer semesters
  • Hours/days as needed. 8 hour shifts, 12 hours shifts
  • Location: Lab, simulation center and clinical setting
  • Supervise first year and second year students
GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: 
Kirkwood Community College seeks a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Adjunct Instructor.  The successful candidate will have strong knowledge base in their discipline and teaching experience at the college level is desirable. Primary duties will include instructing students in courses, and communicating with department staff, students, and other faculty.  

Kirkwood Community College’s Allied Health Department is seeking clinical adjuncts who represent a vital and essential role in the development of students during the clinical rotation. Precepting can be defined as; teaching students the art and science of practice in the healthcare setting. Adjuncts are essential in the process of clinical education to educate and evaluate the required competencies and shape the professional perspectives of students. Clinical Adjuncts teach students how to represent their profession in a positive and professional manner and how to apply their knowledge in clinical situations. Precepting involves investment of time and energy, negotiation and individualization of learning activities, teamwork, coaching, evaluation of performance and required competencies and professional role modeling and guidance.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide instruction in discipline.
  • Work with other faculty members to develop a course syllabus and consistent assessments.
  • Communicate with department staff, students, and faculty on a regular basis.
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

  • Effectively instruct and communicate material for the course.
  • Abide by and enforce safety rules when in a lab setting.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves working in a classroom setting. Occasional (10-33%) sitting, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) standing, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree obtained from an accredited, Respiratory Therapy program. Associates minimum.
  • Passed an NBRC Written Registry Examination. Received RRT and current licensure.
  • Two years of acute clinical experience. 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Experience teaching at the college level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission of a comprehensive community college.
  • Demonstrated success in working collaboratively.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
